Ratification meetings for Postdocs on Aug.9th and 10th

Dear Postdoc members,

Three meetings will be held for the ratification of the proposed tentative agreement affecting Postdocs.

A message from the bargaining team:

"The following vote procedure complies with the Act.

One Ballot for PDAs (combined rat and strike ballot):
1.   I am in favour of the agreement
2.  I am not in favour of the agreement and therefore am prepared to  take strike action.

Two Ballots for PDFs (separate ratification and strike ballots):
1.      I am in favour of the tentative agreement
2.      I am not in favour of the tentative agreement
1.   I am in favour of strike action up to and including a general strike
2.   I am not in favour of strike action

The bargaining team is unanimously recommending acceptance of the tentative agreement."

You may attend one or all meetings but you may only vote at the first meeting you attend. You will have an opportunity to ask questions, vote, and to write your comments on the ratification vote ballots regarding the content of the agreement and the process by which the proposed tentative agreement came about. Below are the available meetings for you to participate:

1-      Wednesday Aug. 9th at 8:00 a.m in UCC37
2-      Wednesday Aug. 9th at 5:30 p.m in UCC37
3-      Thursday Aug. 10th at 11:30 a.m in UCC37

The format of the meetings generally will be: arrival and sign in, presentation of the tentative agreement by the bargaining team followed by a Questions-and-Answer session and then a secret ballot vote. Voting will be opened after the Q and A, however postdocs can continue to ask questions or speak to bargaining team members even after voting has been opened, that way if individuals still need to make up their mind they can ask questions and not feel pressured to cast their ballot simply because other people are doing so.

Postdocs must attend a meeting and hear the presentation in order to vote, that is, they cannot show up expecting to cast their ballot and leave.

On Friday, August 4 and Tuesday, August 8 from 12:30-2pm there will be Q&A sessions at UCC37. Any questions that you have please email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Questions on the tentative agreement details should be reserved for the bargaining team at the Wed/Thurs meetings. Please find the summary of the postdoc survey 2017 here.
