Municipal Elections

For members who are Canadian citizens, we encourage you to vote in the upcoming Ontario municipal elections on October 22nd.

Voter Eligibility

If you are unsure about your voter eligibility, you can find that information on the Ministry of Municipal Affairs website.

Relevant for students, you may be able to vote in two municipalities depending on your residence status. According to Municipal Affairs:

There is a special rule for students who may be living away from home while they attend school. If you are a student and consider your "home" to be the place where you live when you are not attending school (i.e. you plan on returning there), then you are eligible to vote in both your "home" municipality and in the municipality where you currently live while attending school.

Advanced Polls

You can vote before the 22nd at advanced polling stations. The information about advanced polls can be found on the City of London's website. It is important to note that tomorrow October 4th, there is an advanced poll on campus in the UCC basement, running from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.This is an anywhere poll, which means no matter where, or what ward, you live in London, you can vote at this station tomorrow.

Ranked Ballot

London is the only municipality in Ontario that is using a ranked ballot. This means you don't just choose a single candidate to win, but you instead rank your preferences. The city of London has produced videos, and content, to help educate voters on how to use the ranked ballot system. We hope that you will take the time to educate yourself on how to use this new voting method.

Labour Endorsed Candidates

Given that we are a labour union, and support the broader labour movement, we have decided to highlight those candidates supported by the London District Labour Council.

The London District Labour Council endorsed the following candidates, who have shown committed support for labour:

Mayor Tanya Park

Ward 1 Melanie O'Brien

Ward 2 No endorsement

Ward 3 Mo Salih

Ward 4 Jesse Helmer

Ward 5 Shane Clarke
