Message From The President - May Edition

The term of office for the Executive Committee's current officers (except for that of the President) is coming to an end on May 31st. I would like to thank the officers who served the Local over the past year for all of their hard work - Amanda Vyce, Chris Schultz, Jaime Brenes Reyes, Fahad Akon, Ashrafur Rahman, Mary Deminion, Jahirul Mazumder, and Atle Mikkola Kjosen. Jaime, Fahad, and Jahirul will be serving as officers of the Local again this year; their experience with and knowledge of the Local will be invaluable as we head into bargaining this summer.

I would also like to formally welcome the incoming members of next year's EC - Indra Chakraborty, George Ramos, Scott MacDonald, Cayley Bower, Diana Samu-Visser, Mansur Mulk, and Alex Major. Our new officers will continue training for their roles with the union this week as they prepare for a busy year ahead.

The Negotiating Committee is working to finalize the Local's bargaining demands and we will soon be selecting members to sit on the team that will officially negotiate for a new contract with the Employer on behalf of the membership. If you would like to get involved, the Negotiating Committee continues to meet every Thursday from 10-12 in Somerville House, room 1313. Otherwise, stay tuned for future announcements to learn how you can get involved in the Local's Mobilization Committee, which will plan events and strategies that will aim to garner attention and support for our contract negotiations.

Finally, there has been a delay in processing the April and May Financial Aid Fund applications. We apologize for any hardship this may have caused to our members and are working diligently to process the applications as soon as possible.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

In solidarity,

Dave Blocker
President, PSAC Local 610
