Join the PSAC Local 610 Social Justice Committee

The Social Justice and Political Action Committee is a branch of the Teaching Assistant and Post Doctoral union, PSAC local 610, at the University of Western Ontario. Our work addresses concerns in three contexts, the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and the world at large. We may also work with other progressive groups and coalitions to promote alternative policies which benefit workers, their families and communities.

Currently, we have two projects underway:

• The Committee is working alongside the Progressive Librarians Guild to organize a series of workshops to educate students, staff, and faculty on the merits and issues surrounding Open Access publishing, scheduled to take place during Open Access Week (October 19th - 25th). Attendees can expect to learn about what open access is as well as the resources and support available to Western students.

• With the intention of fundraising for a local women's organization, we are also working toward hosting a feminist film series focusing on Women and Labour.

Both projects are in the very early stages of development and so we would welcome new volunteers who want to get in on the ground floor. At present, we see potential to expand the work of the committee and hope to begin new projects throughout the year. If you're interested in joining the committee please contact the co-chairs, Victoria O'Meara (This email address is being protected from spambots.
