Position Description:
PhD candidates who are currently just beyond their normal TA eligibility period are welcome to apply. Graduate students in Biology programs will be given preference.
Biology 3594B DNA: Genome Organization, Mutagenesis and DNA repair [10 h per week]. The position involves lecturing/leading in a tutorial setting for a tutorial size of 50 third and fourth year students. The position includes test and final exam proctoring and evaluation. Assignment grading will occur for an experiential inductive learning project in the tutorials. Expertise in the methodologies for mutation detection and analysis of genome organization is needed. Awareness of different model systems in DNA research is an asset. Tutorial content is drawn from primary research papers published in top genetics/genomics journals within the last two years. This TA has the opportunity to design test/exam questions in multiple formats/styles: multiple choice, short answer and short essay. This position will also involve mentoring students in professional skills including science communication: both written and oral communication for different target audiences. There is the opportunity to participate in the design of tutorials.
